The Elizabeth Matchett Stover Memorial Award was established in 1978 by Jerry S. Stover of Dallas in memory of his mother, who was for many years a key member of the Southwest Review staff. The award consists of a $300 cash prize and is given to the author of the best poem published in the magazine during the preceding year.

Ellen Hinsey's books include Cities of Memory (Yale University Press), The White Fire of Time (Wesleyan University Press), and the forthcoming Update on the Descent. Her work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Southern Review. In 2001 she was a Berlin Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.

Peter Filkins

Peter Filkins is the author of two books of poetry, What She Knew (1998) and After Homer (2002). He has been the recipient of a Berlin Prize from the American Academy in Berlin and his work has appeared in numerous publications, including Partisan Review, The Paris Review, Poetry, and The New Republic. He teaches at Simon's Rock College of Bard in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
